Embark on an exclusive camping adventure tailored to your booking group at our newly introduced campsite. Nestled amidst nature, our facilities boast open-air hot water showers and ablutions with breath-taking views, ensuring a unique and immersive experience. Deliberately devoid of modern amenities like electricity, our site fosters a deeper connection with the natural world. Accommodating up to five family groups (four recommended) per booking, our retreat ensures privacy and tranquillity, with a maximum of five vehicles and two adults per vehicle, totalling a maximum of 16 persons. Bookings require a minimum of 2 night’s stay.

Conditions of camping site at Nkomazi.
  • Only off-road caravans are allowed.

  • Only 4×4 vehicles are allowed.

  • All fishing on a (live) catch and release basis.

  • 4×4 Routes may not be driven with less than 2 vehicles.

  • Children must always be supervised by adults.

  • Two-way radio must be taken on self-drive routes.

Not permitted.
  • Any open fires on Reserve other than at camp and picnic/fishing area.

  • Self drives outside permitted times (9-15)

  • No persons on the back of bakkies.

  • No persons on vehicle roofs.

  • Nothing may be removed from Reserve.

  • No loud music.

  • No generators.

  • Any weapons, other than self-defence weapons.

  • Swimming in river.

  • Walking outside campsite perimeter.

Important

The lawful owner of a self-defense weapon is responsible for the safekeeping of such a weapon.

Upon request from the lawful owner, the weapon can be stored in the Nkomazi safe for the duration of the stay.

4X4 ROUTES

Conditions of 4×4 Routes
  • Two-way radio must be taken along when departing on a route.

  • Tow rope must be taken along.

  • Maximum speed 30km/h.

  • Routes must not deviate from the paths as indicated on GPS provided for the duration of the stay.

  • If the lodge vehicles approach from the front, you are requested to pull off to the left and wait until vehicles have passed

  • No toilet paper may be left in the veld.

What to expect from routes.

1. Reserve – Thaba

  • The route extends over a distance of 35km.

  • The entire route is within the reserve.

  • Main roads and two-track roads are traversed.

  • River is crossed at two different points, water flows in both areas, depths of crossings vary from 300mm to 800mm deep.

  • Most of the route consists of savannas, open grass fields, and abundant wildlife.

  • Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs use these areas for hunting.

  • The route starts at an altitude of 3219ft and reaches an altitude of 3737ft.

2. Thaba – 17 Streams

  • Route extends over a distance of 45km.

  • 2 Sections of the route are within the Reserve, consisting of savannas, grass plains, and mountainous areas.

  • Middle section of the route is outside the Reserve. Beautiful mountains, cliffs, and vegetation can be observed here.

  • Fresh spring water streams are crossed 17 times.

  • On the route, uphill driving is done towards an ‘LORA’ communication tower where the entire reserve can be viewed from above.

  • The route starts at an altitude of 3219ft and reaches an altitude of 4289ft.

  • Large portions of the route consist of two-track roads and loose rocky surfaces.

4X4 ROUTES

What to expect at picnic/fishing area.

Big Bridge

  • Located under shady trees on river bank.

  • Hippos and a large crocodile frequent visit the area.

  • Gazebo/Sunshade (Awning) is not necessary here.

  • No ablution facilities.

Louis se Gat

  • Located on river bank.

  • Shade is limited.

  • Gazebo/Sunshade (Awning) is recommended.

  • No ablution facilities.

  • Compressor recommended, should tyres need deflating.
